Keiko Hubnik is a Sydney born emerging Japanese mandala artist.
My interest in the art of Mandala making initially stemmed from my passion for colour. From the very beginning, I felt the desire to create something unique and expressive using a variety of vibrant colours that would translate my feelings onto a blank piece of paper. After researching the history and culture of Mandala art, I came up with the idea of creating contemporary Mandalas for my family and friends…
The key factor that drives the creative process is letting go and allowing my intuition to take over and guide my hand. When I start, I have no fixed image of what the Mandala will turn out to be like. I simply start from the center point of the page and let all the colours and shapes evolve.
My inspiration certainly comes from the people in my life. I have a real gift for sensing their aura and personality and I translate this into my artwork using colours that symbolize their image.
Those that meditate using my Mandalas say that they receive an ‘’immense amount of beautiful energy that helps them find a sense of calm and peacefulness’’. Everyone’s journey of self-discovery is unique and I hope that my Mandalas can play a role in one’s spiritual growth.
